The journey begins...

I am turning 40... FORTY!!! in a week and a half.
Couch-potato Queen.

I saw an old high school classmate using an "ease into 5K" app and posting on Facebook.  I thought to myself... you ought to do that...

ugh

have I lost my mind?

so she posted again...

and again

I thought... I NEED to do SOMETHING... why not this?
I took a look.
Starts out easy... I thought

First day- 5 min warm up walk, run 30 secs, walks 30 secs, run 45 secs, walk 45 secs, run 60 secs, walk 90 secs... repeat all that three times and a 5 min cool down walk...

Well, these people underestimated the depths of my couch potato depravity, let me tell you!

I did week one, day one.
and then... just to PROVE i'd lost my mind completely... I posted it to Facebook, for everyone I know to see.

OMGOSH!

Now I'm committed! Now people are watching!  They;ll know if I skip a run!

ACK!

So my Pastor's wife, Tracy asked to run with me... awesome... now I HAVE to do it...

Seriously, the accountability and support helps a lot.  I am way, way, WAY out of shape  (isn't round a shape?)  The helpful comments and cheers on Facebook help, the knowing someone will notice if I skip helps a lot.

We had to repeat week one, because we are both still struggling with those 60 second runs, but next Monday 8/27 starts week 2... a friend told me to just slow my pace and run the full minute or whatever is required, so off I go

So... my next post will be to show my results thus far... There is no way I can see to post to the blog directly from the app on my phone, so Ill be updating this later in the day most of the time.

My goal is to get through this program, which steps up every week so (in theory) you can happily run a 5k without stopping.  I plan to run on the treadmill all winter and in the spring sign up for an actual 5k run in town.  THEN, if it hasn't killed me, we'll talk about a 10...

Anyway, if you read and comment, that's great... and if you don't that's ok too...
